Genesys Cloud Release Notes — September 9, 2024

Seven items, and one of them is a network change with a deadline attached. Start there, not with the features.

TL;DR

  • The 2024 Genesys CIDR expansion needs firewall and RTP port changes on your side. This is a continuity item, not an enhancement.
  • A Mobile Messenger SDK for iOS and Android brings low-code messaging UIs into native apps, managed remotely.
  • Knowledge workbench connectors pull content from Salesforce and ServiceNow into bots, Agent Copilot, Messenger, and the knowledge portal.
  • Messenger session persistence keeps a conversation alive as a customer moves between sub-domains.

Read this one first

The CIDR expansion notice reappears in these notes for a reason. Genesys is expanding its IP address ranges and RTP port usage, and organizations have to confirm their firewalls accept the new ranges. Genesys is explicit that this is about business continuity, which is their way of saying calls stop working if you ignore it.

Network changes like this fail in a particular way. Nothing breaks on the day you read the notice. It breaks later, in one region, during a traffic shift, and the people debugging it have no reason to connect it to a release note from weeks earlier. If you own the firewall rules, book the work now. If someone else owns them, send them the article this week rather than adding it to a list.

Customer Engagement

The Mobile Messenger SDK is the substantial feature. Administrators can embed no-code or low-code asynchronous messaging UIs directly into native iOS and Android apps and manage them remotely, which means changing the in-app messaging experience without shipping an app update. Anyone who has waited two weeks on an app store review to change a label will see the appeal.

Messenger session persistence across sub-domains is smaller but removes a real annoyance. A customer moving from a sales sub-domain to a support sub-domain keeps their conversation and their journey tracking instead of starting again.

Self-Service and Knowledge

Knowledge workbench connectors for Salesforce and ServiceNow let authors bring third-party content in and surface it through bots, Agent Copilot, Messenger, and the knowledge portal. If your actual knowledge lives in ServiceNow and your Genesys knowledge base has been a stale copy of it, this is the fix.

I would still treat it as a content decision rather than a plumbing one. Connecting a source that nobody curates gives your bot more to be confidently wrong about. Pick the article sets that are maintained, not the ones that exist.

Agent Copilot also gained AI-generated summary answers at the top of manual search results, alongside the highlighted answers it already returned.

Data and Reporting

Extended voice transcription services now support Hindi, at the usual additional per-minute cost, registered through the AppFoundry. The queue activation panel in agent detail views gained search and pagination, which only matters if you have more than 25 queues, and if you do, it matters every day.

What this means for your contact center

The CIDR work is the only item here with a failure mode. Everything else is opt-in.

The Mobile Messenger SDK is worth scoping if you have a native app and have been routing customers out to a browser for support. Being able to adjust the experience without an app release changes what is worth trying.

What to check

  • Read the 2024 Genesys CIDR Expansion article, run the tests it lists, and confirm your firewall accepts the new ranges and RTP ports.
  • Identify who owns firewall changes in your organization and give them the article directly rather than filing it.
  • Scope the Mobile Messenger SDK against your native app roadmap if in-app support is on it.
  • Audit which Salesforce or ServiceNow article sets are actually maintained before connecting them to a bot.
  • Check whether Hindi transcription is worth the per-minute cost for your volumes before enabling EVTS for it.
