Field Notes

Genesys Cloud Release Notes — September 7, 2026

Nine items this week and not a single deprecation. That makes this a good week to spend an hour on the small governance jobs you keep pushing to next sprint, because two of these items exist specifically to make that cleanup possible.

TL;DR

  • AudioHook integrations can now be scoped to specific queues instead of receiving everything, and the per-org limit goes from 5 to 20.
  • ACD voicemail recordings get dedicated Stream and Download permissions, separate from View and Delete.
  • Copilot utility actions (date math, capability discovery) no longer count toward AI token consumption or appear in customer-facing analytics.
  • Dictionary Management drops the Example Phrase field for English, Spanish, and French native transcription, and the configured phrases will be deleted later.

Platform and Integrations

AudioHook is the headline. Admins can now assign which queues stream audio to which AudioHook integration, rather than every integration receiving the whole org's media. If you run a compliance recorder alongside a real-time analytics vendor, those two were previously getting identical firehoses, including queues neither of them had any business hearing. That was a data-governance problem sitting in plain sight. Fix it this week.

The cap moving from 5 to 20 integrations got the louder mention, but it's the smaller change. Most orgs were nowhere near five.

Voice and Voicemail

ACD voicemail recordings now have their own Stream and Download permissions under Voicemail > ACD Voicemail. Before this, anyone who could view a voicemail interaction could pull the audio file off the platform. Splitting playback from export is the right granularity and it should have been there from the start. Audit who currently holds these two and strip Download from anyone who doesn't need an offline copy.

On the CRM side, agents working callbacks in CX Cloud from Genesys and Salesforce can now see when a voicemail is attached to the callback, play it, and read the transcript before dialing back. Small workflow fix, but it removes a reason for agents to keep a second Genesys tab open, and every one of those you can close is worth having.

Copilot and Virtual Agents

Copilot picks up a utility action classification for background operations like date calculations and capability discovery. Those actions are now excluded from customer-facing analytics and don't count against AI token consumption. Read that as a correctness fix rather than a feature. If you built a Copilot ROI case before this week, your denominator included Copilot's own bookkeeping. Rerun the numbers.

Copilot also renders structured results (users, queues, skills, roles) as expandable list and key-value cards instead of a wall of text. Purely cosmetic, no workflow changes needed, and a nice improvement if you use Copilot for admin lookups.

Agentic virtual agent utterance history now carries turn-level metadata: tool call names and status, knowledge and data action call details, and guardrail outcomes, all of it in the CSV export. This is the second week running that Genesys has shipped AVA observability, after the Turns API metadata on August 31. The pattern is clear and welcome. Debugging an agentic VA by reading transcripts and guessing was never going to scale.

Speech Analytics and Knowledge

Dictionary Management gains Display As and Boost Value fields, which help with recognition and readability of org-specific terms. It also loses the Example Phrase field for English, Spanish, and French variants on Genesys Native Transcription, because the newer engine doesn't use example phrases. Configured phrases for those variants are already inaccessible and Genesys says they will be permanently deleted at a later date.

Genesys filed that under enhancements. I'd file it under removals. If anyone on your team invested real effort building example phrases for those languages, export what you want to keep now, because "a later date" is not a date you get to negotiate.

The knowledge optimizer dashboard now covers Knowledge V2 and knowledge fabric content, with article feedback metrics, answer-generation feedback, and better filtering to find the content that's underperforming.

Business Rules

Decision tables get version history, rollback, and saved snapshots. If you keep routing logic in a decision table, you have been one careless save away from a bad afternoon, with no way back. Now there is one.

What this means for your contact center

Nothing here has a deadline, which is exactly why these items tend to get skipped. The AudioHook scoping and the voicemail permission split are both twenty-minute configuration jobs that reduce how much sensitive data is reachable by how many people. That's the sort of work that only ever looks urgent in hindsight.

The Copilot token accounting change is worth flagging to whoever owns the AI budget. If utility actions were inflating consumption, your historical per-interaction cost was wrong in the unhelpful direction, and the corrected baseline is the one to forecast from.

Decision table versioning changes how safely you can iterate. If you've been reluctant to tune routing logic in production because a mistake was unrecoverable, that constraint is gone.

What to check

  • Scope each AudioHook integration to only the queues it needs, starting with any third-party recorder.
  • Review who holds Voicemail > ACD Voicemail > Download and remove it from anyone who only needs playback.
  • Export any Example Phrase configuration you care about for English, Spanish, or French native transcription.
  • Recalculate Copilot cost baselines now that utility actions are excluded from token consumption.
  • Snapshot your production decision tables so you have a known-good version to roll back to.
  • Pull a CSV of AVA utterance history and confirm the new turn-level fields give you what you need for triage.

One housekeeping note. Genesys published this week's notes under an october-8-2026 URL, a month in the future, while the page itself reads September 7, 2026. The page date is the real one. The link below points at the URL Genesys published it under.
